Villa Camphor

Villa Camphor is a contemporary residence that seamlessly integrates an existing pavilion with a substantial new extension. Designed to frame the dramatic views of the Newlands mountains, the architecture balances openness with privacy, creating a refined yet inviting retreat. The design emphasizes scale and volume, blending modern luxury with contextual sensitivity to the Bishopscourt landscape.

The primary challenge was merging the new extension with the existing pavilion in a way that felt seamless and contextually appropriate. Sensitivity to the Bishopscourt cultural landscape guided the design, ensuring a contemporary architectural statement that remains harmonious with its surroundings.
